A large investment management firm identified hidden Oracle SaaS subscription risk through Anglepoint’s ongoing Oracle Cloud workstream. Recurring Executive Summary reviews surfaced birthright roles that were consuming Oracle SaaS subscriptions, creating subscription shortfalls and financial exposure. By keeping the risk visible and supporting stakeholder follow-through, Anglepoint helped the client complete targeted remediation and avoid additional subscription costs.

Challenge

As part of Anglepoint’s ongoing Oracle Cloud workstream, quarterly Executive Summary reporting identified several birthright roles that were automatically assigned to users and consuming Oracle SaaS subscriptions. While these roles were part of standard user provisioning, the organization’s Oracle team was not initially aware that they were driving subscription consumption.

The issue created subscription shortfalls and introduced approximately $488,000 in potential financial exposure. As new employees were onboarded, the risk had the potential to increase over time, creating additional unbudgeted subscription requirements.

Ongoing governance turned hidden subscription consumption into actionable remediation.Ā

The risk had been highlighted for approximately two quarters before remediation began. Because the client is highly risk-averse and typically seeks to resolve high-risk items within 90 days, the continued visibility provided through Executive Summary reporting helped keep the issue in front of the right stakeholders.

The remediation itself was not technically complex, but execution required coordination. The client needed to identify the right internal owners, agree on a timeline, and confirm the process for cleaning up the birthright roles.

Solution

Anglepoint identified the issue through monthly Oracle SaaS data collection and quarterly Executive Summary reporting. The team documented the risk, presented the findings, and recommended role cleanup as the only viable alternative to purchasing additional unbudgeted subscriptions.Ā

The role cleanup reduced Oracle SaaS subscription risk and prompted the client to review similar birthright-role risks across other publishers.Ā

Rather than treating the finding as a one-time report item, Anglepoint continued to elevate the risk through the established governance cadence. This helped the client maintain focus on the issue until the right stakeholders were aligned and ready to act.Ā

Once buy-in was secured, Anglepoint worked with the client’s Oracle team and SAM project managers to define the cleanup requirements. The team supported a focused discussion with Vanguard stakeholders, clarified the subscription impact, and helped document the actions needed to reduce the exposure.Ā

The value of the work was not only in identifying the risk, but in keeping it visible long enough for remediation to happen.Ā

The cleanup was completed within a matter of weeks. Following remediation, Anglepoint documented the results and recommended cleanup of three additional roles based on the findings. The client was also encouraged by the outcome and began looking at similar birthright-role risks across other publishers where consumption exceeded entitlement.Ā

Results

  • $117,000 in cost avoidance achieved: Reduced Oracle SaaS subscription risk through targeted birthright-role cleanup.Ā
  • Hidden subscription consumption brought into view: Identified birthright roles that were consuming Oracle SaaS SKUs without the Oracle team’s initial awareness.Ā Ā
  • Recurring governance cadence proved its value: Quarterly Executive Summary reporting kept the high-risk item visible until stakeholders acted.Ā Ā
  • Broader optimization opportunity created: The client began reviewing similar birthright-role risks across other publishers based on the success of this remediation.Ā
