What You Need to Know: Changes to Eligibility for Windows 2008 Sub-Capacity Licensing

*This article has been updated – Due to the current conditions worldwide, IBM recently announced the extension of support for unsupported platforms to give its customers more time to adjust.

With Q2 quickly approaching, we want to remind everyone of the Operating Systems eligibility changes for IBM Sub-Capacity Licensing. “An operating system or a virtualization technology that reaches end of support by its vendor is removed from the list of technologies eligible for sub-capacity reporting and the list of technologies supported by License Metric Tool.”

What is changing?

IBM has released a list of Operating Systems that will no longer be eligible for Sub-capacity licensing, included on this list are:

– Windows Server 2008
– Windows Server 2008 R2
– Windows 7

See the full list of Operating Systems being removed.

What should you do?

Removal of the above Operating Systems is planned for End of Q1 2021. This means that clients that are using the specified Operating system should be looking to move to another eligible technology. If you have any questions or need help with switching over before Q1 2020, feel free to reach out to us at info@anglepoint.com or contact us through our website at Anglepoint.com.
